"Pokémon HeartGold" (Japanese: "Pokémon HeartGold") and "Pokémon HeartGold" Pokémon SoulSilver (Japanese: Pokémon SoulSilver) is a remake of the 1999 game Pokémon Gold and Silver, developed by Game Developed by Freak, published by The Pokémon Company, it runs on the Nintendo DS platform. The game went on sale in Japan on September 12, 2009, and was released in other regions starting in March 2010.

The story background of "Pokémon HeartGold" and "Pokémon SoulSilver" is the Johto region in the Pokémon world. The player's goal is to become the best Pokémon trainer by collecting various fictional creatures called Pokémon in the area and defeating other Pokémon. Game director Shigeki Morimoto said that the game's goal is to take into account both old and new generations of players. The two games sold extremely well and received many positive reviews. As of March 2014, the combined sales of the two games reached 12.72 million copies, making them the eighth best-selling Nintendo DS game.

game mechanics

"Pokémon HeartGold" and "Pokémon SoulSilver" are role-playing games with adventure elements. The game mechanics maintain the same tone as the main series of games in the series. They adopt a third-person bird's-eye view and have three main screens: map, battle screen and directory menu. Players can adjust the arrangement of the team, check the items in the backpack, change game settings, and view the Pokédex or save files in the directory menu. Players receive a Pokémon at the beginning of the game and use Poké Balls to capture additional Pokémon[5]. When players randomly encounter wild Pokémon or engage in battle with non-player characters (NPCs) in the game, the screen will jump to a turn-based battle screen. During battle, players can command Pokémon to use moves to fight, use props, replace Pokémon, or escape (but non-player characters cannot escape during battles). Each Pokémon has its own health value. When a Pokémon's health value drops to zero, it loses its ability to fight. When the player's Pokémon defeats the opponent's Pokémon, the player can gain experience points. Accumulating a certain amount of experience points can increase the level. Most Pokémon will evolve when they reach a specific level or meet certain specific conditions.

new features

"HeartGold" and "SoulSilver" allow the first Pokémon in the player's Pokémon team to follow the character, a function similar to the function in "Pokémon Yellow" that allows Pikachu to follow the character. There is also a mini-game called "Pokémon All-Around Tournament" in the game, which allows Pokémon to participate in various sports competitions. The Japanese version of the game has slot machines, but the international version has changed it to a game called "Voltorb Flip" that is a mix of "Nonogram" and "Treadmine". There is also a feature in the game that changes the background music to the 8-bit soundtrack from Pokémon Gold and Silver.

game plot

The story stage of "HeartGold" and "SoulSilver" is the same as that of "Pokémon Gold" and "Pokémon Silver". It takes place in the Kanto and Johto areas of the Pokémon world. The protagonist living in Wakaba Town in the Johto area is a young Pokémon trainer who will obtain beginner Pokémon and illustrations from Dr. Somu's laboratory and start his adventure. The goal of the game is for the protagonist to collect Pokémon from all over the Johto and Kanto regions, defeat gym leaders in various places, collect badges, and challenge the alliance. After defeating the Four Heavenly Kings and the champion of the alliance, the player can duel with Red on the top of Silver Mountain. Players will fight against their old enemy Silver many times, and they will also confront the criminal organization Team Rocket. Team Rocket was defeated by the protagonists of "Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen" in the past and was once defeated. The leader Sakaki is also missing. The remnants of Team Rocket try to send a message to contact Sakaki by occupying the radio station.

In addition to remaking "Pokémon Gold and Silver", the game also incorporates the plot of "Pokémon Crystal". For example, the plot focuses on one of the legendary Pokémon, Suicune, and also has facilities such as a battle development area and a partner park.
