Desolate Land

Generation of first appearance Generation VI

The Pokémon changes the weather to nullify Water-type attacks.

Effect

Desolate Land creates extremely harsh sunlight when the ability is activated (by Groudon reverting to its Primal form).

Extremely harsh sunlight has similar effects to regular harsh sunlight, with some key additions:

  • The weather remains active as long as the ability-bearer is in battle, stopping only if the Pokémon is switched out.
  • Water-type moves are nullified, "evaporating" with no effect.
  • Extremely harsh sunlight cannot be replaced by regular weather conditions. This means that moves like Hail, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, and Sandstorm, as well as abilities like Drizzle, Drought, Sand Stream, and Snow Warning, will fail.

Cloud Nine and Air Lock can temporarily bypass the effects of Desolate Land, but Mold Breaker cannot.
