Basic Info
"Pokémon Gold and Silver" (Japanese: ポケットモンスター 金・银, English: Pokémon Gold Version and Silver Version) is a Game Boy Color game of the second generation of the "Pokémon" series, developed by GAME FREAK and published by Nintendo. This game was first launched in Japan in November 1999, and the North American version was launched in October 2000. The sequel to this game, "Pokémon Crystal", was launched in Japan in December 2000, and the North American version was launched in July 2001. In 2009, a remake of "Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver" was released for the Nintendo DS.
The game has added 100 new Pokémon. Players can adventure in the Johto area, discover and capture these Pokémon during the game, and use them in Pokémon battles. The two games have similar plots, but are independent of each other and can be played alone, or they can communicate with each other using connecting lines to complete the game goal of collecting all the Pokémon in the Pokédex.
Pokémon Gold and Silver received great acclaim upon release, and are considered by many to be the crowning masterpieces of the entire series, as well as the most important titles in the fifth generation of games. Its huge success allowed it to match its predecessors "Pokémon Red and Green" and continue the series' prosperity. As of 2010, the total sales of "Gold/Silver" were 23 million copies.
